Ceramic Braces in Atlanta, GA

Ceramic braces are the clear choice for patients who need braces but do not want metal brackets. Ceramic braces are as effective as metal ones while offering a better look and feel. If you live in the Atlanta area and would like to find out if these alternative braces are the right choice for you, board-certified orthodontists Dr. Ruchir Patel and Dr. Kal Thakkar of iClear Orthodontics can help. Ceramic braces have been used on many of their patients in their Alpharetta, Roswell, and Kennesaw offices.

What are Ceramic Braces?

Many advances in braces technology have been made throughout the years. Ceramic braces are one of these innovations. Ceramic braces have clear or tooth-colored brackets that blend in with your teeth. The brackets are the same size and shape as traditional metal braces. Both metal and tooth-colored wires can be used with ceramic braces. Ceramic braces are preferable to patients who are reluctant to undergo treatment with metal braces. Ceramic braces help overcome objections over appearance because ceramic braces are less noticeable than metal ones.

In addition to featuring translucent brackets, some ceramic braces do not require the use of elastic bands. Eliminating the elastic band makes the braces inconspicuous and keeps the braces clean and clear looking.

Ceramic braces are typically combined with metal braces, with ceramic braces on the top teeth and metal braces on the bottom teeth. The metal components are placed inconspicuously so you still get a natural-looking appearance.

Why Should I Consider Ceramic Braces?

Ceramic braces do the same work as traditional braces, but they are less obvious. Many teen and adult patients prefer the discrete appearance of ceramic braces during their treatment.

Advantages of Ceramic Braces vs. Metal Braces

Ceramic braces offer many benefits over traditional metal braces including:

  • Appearance – Inconspicuous translucent brackets
  • Comfort – Thinner wires, smoother edges and lie flatter against your teeth than metal braces
  • Cleanliness – No rubber bands makes brushing and flossing easier

How Durable are Ceramic Braces?

In recent years, ceramic braces have been designed to be more durable than their predecessors. More robust materials are being used that allow the brackets to stand up to everyday wear and tear. Just as with metal braces, it is important to refrain from eating hard or chewy foods that could loosen a bracket or break a wire.

How Do I Clean My Ceramic Braces?

Ceramic braces have a reputation for staining. While this was true for previous generations of ceramic braces, fortunately, it is no longer the case. Ceramic braces are now made out of composite materials that do not discolor. Although the brackets do not stain, the bands that attach the brackets to the wires can. The bands are changed during each office visit so even if your bands do stain, they will be replaced with new, clean ones.

To keep your ceramic braces clean, brush and floss well, refrain from smoking and avoid food and drinks such as grape juice that are known for staining teeth.

How Much Do Ceramic Braces Cost in Atlanta, GA?

The cost of ceramic braces varies based on the severity of the malocclusion, the length of treatment, whether any additional devices are required and other factors.

Dental insurance sometimes covers a portion or the full cost of ceramic braces, so it is important to check your policy’s coverage. If you have Flexible Spending Account dollars available through your employer, your pre-tax dollars can be applied to the cost of ceramic braces.

The staff at his office is friendly, and they know how to answer questions, which goes a long way toward feeling comfortable with an orthodontist. Our 12 year old child now has a beautiful smile, and it’s all thanks to his excellent care. He never recommends orthodontic treatment unless it's needed, and that really makes a difference. Our 2nd…" - Kimberly T
